On Physical Activity...

While balanced diets are important the people our members serve, we also understand the importance of physical activities in promoting healthy lifestyles. The Health & Wellness Pillar represents the diversity of our membership and the types of collaborations we promote.  

A number of organisations look at the importance of physical activity and have programmes and initiatives in place. These include:
World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry
The World Federation of the Sporting Goods Industry (WFSGI) actively supports the promotion of physical activity on a global level. Their role is to:
  • Foster and encourage the participation of citizens of all countries in healthy sporting activities (WFSGI By-Laws Art. 2.8); 
  • Provide input and support ideas and solutions for the implementation of the UN resolution  A/66/L.1 in 2011 and the follow up (resolution WHA 66.10) in the fight against physical inactivity and NCDs; and
  • Collaborate with the WHO, UNESCO and other stakeholders on global, national, regional and local level (governing bodies and NGOs, corporations, schools, civil society, individuals and communities.


DESIGNED TO MOVE is a call-to-action supported by a community of public, private and civil sector organizations dedicated to ending the growing epidemic of physical inactivity.

In 2010, Nike initiated a process with over 70 organizations to better understand the underlying issues related to physical inactivity and help consolidate the facts and findings on the topic. The goal is to establish a unified path forward for action. The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE) joined Nike to validate, refine, and publish the findings and action plan found in the DESIGNED TO MOVE report.
