The workshop was a joint project between Proforest and TFA 2020 and focused on finalising the text of the Regional Accord as well as fostering further dialogue aroundkey issues facing sustainable palm oil production and use in the region. The Regional Accord is a set of regional principles to guide responsible palm oil development in Africa. The workshop was attended by representatives from nine Central and West African palm oil producer countries, both from the private and public sector, along with other key actors in the sustainable palm oil landscape. Ignacio participated in a panel discussion on the Africa Palm Oil Initiative and Collaborators, giving key insights into the collective CGF approach and how the use of the CGF Sustainable Palm Oil Sourcing Guidelines can help companies on their journey towards more sustainable palm oil usage.
About the Africa Palm Oil Initiative (APOI)
The goal of the APOI is to develop and support the implementation of a set of regional principles for responsible palm oil development that take account of the ambitious development plans of countries in Africa, while addressing both environmental targets for reduced deforestation, land use and greenhouse gases, and also social indicators on issues, such as land tenure and the rights of indigenous peoples.
