At the Global Forum on Responsible Recruitment and Employment, co-hosts The Consumer Goods Forum and The Institute for Human Rights and Business had the privilege of hosting photographer Lisa Kristine’s acclaimed exhibition, “ENSLAVED”, a visual story of modern day slavery. During the event which took place on June 11th and 12th, delegates could view the powerful photography in the networking space at the event’s venue, Marina Bay Sands in Singapore. The exhibition remained in place for the rest of the week during the CGF’s flagship event, the Global Summit.

ENSLAVED is a powerful statement about one of the greatest human rights abuses of our time. The images capture the experience of a moment lived in slavery, allowing the viewer to peek into the lives of those who are ENSLAVED. What we see are two undeniable truths – the extreme brutality of the situation, and the resilience of the human spirit. The exhibition portrays survivors who are now rebuilding their lives and helping others to freedom.

“I hope these images will awaken a force in people who view them. I hope that force will ignite a fire that shines a light on slavery.”- Lisa Kristine, Photographer

The exhibition aims to engage awareness and offer specific, doable and effective ways for people to help make sustainable change to eradicate slavery forever. It was created to inspire sustainable change at a local, national, and global level through education with visual story telling accompanied by information and curriculum on slavery today.

From the sweltering brick kilns to the rickety mine shafts, acclaimed photographer Lisa Kristine risked her safety and health to photograph the brutality of slavery today. Kristine documented the work of Free the Slaves in three of the countries where the organisation works on the frontlines of modern day slavery.

In January 2012, Kristine spoke about her experiences at a TEDx event in Maui:

Kristine is kindly supporting the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) “50 for Freedom” campaign, by donating her photography for their usage. We are thankful to the ILO and Lisa Kristine for allowing us to share her poignant work that provided a sobering reminder of the human faces behind the endemic issue of forced labour. This exhibit allowed delegates of the Global Forum on Responsible Recruitment & Employment to see that such events are all the more necessary to put an end to modern slavery.
