It is no longer enough to be a great communicator, financier or project manager to make it to a company’s executive team. Business needs, consumers and technology are changing fast and future leaders must understand how to recognise these shifts. These challenges provide a clear opportunity for business to innovate and have a positive impact on both people and planet, as well as their own long-term growth. Enter the FLP.

The FLP exists to create a network of young leaders that together can build a sustainable future for the consumer goods industry. We are committed to helping you tackle how and why. Understand concretely what building a strategy and a company with purpose really means, and how technology can be used to drive positive change. And, in 2018, the FLP is expanding its programme even further.

We know that the consumer goods industry is collectively responsible for so much in humanity’s material life, and touches so much of the environment, that it is morally required to make responsible choices about how it makes, transports, sells and encourages the use of its products.  The Consumer Goods Forum’s FLP is committed to realising the vision of the industry for a better world through greater use of sustainable practices and by working with companies to build future leaders with purpose.

To help us get there, we are developing a global network of young leaders, which includes both an online community and in-person events, who have already earned the right to represent their companies at the global level. You all work for individual companies, but you also have wider external networks.  And external networks matter because they help you to make sense of the world, test hypotheses and enlist help for initiatives which go beyond one company. 

Of course, they are also rich sources of insight and opportunity for individual development, but that doesn’t mean they’re irrelevant or unhelpful for the companies you all work for.  The Consumer Goods Forum has built this and other networks to make it as powerful and as global a force as possible for positive change amongst its members and across the industry as a whole.

The challenges facing humanity, let alone the consumer goods industry, require collaboration between economic actors along our entire value chain, and between competitors at each point, on a number of important questions.  The challenges also require increasing amounts of accountability. We must be part of the solution. To do this, however, your companies need to understand the challenges and align at an industry level. These problems are too big for any one company or leader to solve by themselves.

Our global network is designed for the very best future leaders and we know great leaders never stop learning. Their development continues throughout their lives and the context in which they lead is always changing.  This is especially important for fast track and high potential leaders who are acquiring their first divisional or functional management responsibilities.  The FLP, therefore, seeks out and promotes the most up to date strategic insight, best practice exchanges around operations and the most compelling and relevant senior leadership lessons for this population.
