Exploring Pathways Forward to Accelerate Decarbonisation
Climate change presents challenges of unprecedented scale, and the responsibility to address them is collective. Collaboration remains paramount as stakeholders across sectors – companies, countries, cities, and more – unite under the common goal of achieving net zero. The consumer goods sector continues to lead this transformation, with our members actively working together to drive meaningful progress.
Decarbonisation is a cornerstone of the CGF’s initiatives, deeply embedded across our eight Coalitions of Action. Recognising the need for dedicated industry-wide action, our Board of Directors established the Climate Transition Coalition (formerly the Towards Net Zero Coalition) in June 2023 to accelerate the consumer goods industry’s commitments to reducing GHG emissions.
With the Coalition now fully operational, efforts are focused on strengthening internal capabilities, improving how we monitor and report progress, and driving collective action on key sustainability priorities. Our members are actively collaborating across the broader Race to Zero network and with the existing eight CGF Coalitions to ensure alignment and impact.
The Coalition is structured around three key areas of focus:
Mitigation Action Planning: Move from target setting to tangible action in collaboration with suppliers
Risk Management Insights: Manage and mitigate climate and nature risk for long-term resilience across the value chain
Data for Impact: Drive harmonization and clarity in emissions and deforestation data across varying maturity levels
Climate Ambition into Action: A Practical Guide for Retailers and Manufacturers
The Coalition has just launched a new guide designed to help retailers and manufacturers move from climate ambition to real, measurable action. This guide is divided into six sections, addressing key challenges identified by our members. It offers practical guidance, real-world examples, and actionable insights to accelerate progress toward a more sustainable future.
As part of our global Towards Net Zero mission, the CGF is driving local action through dedicated regional initiatives in Latin America, China, and Japan.
In Latin America, companies are coming together to drive progress in clean energy, regenerative agriculture, and sustainable mobility. A new project hub will serve as a collaborative platform for members to share challenges, co-create solutions, and scale impactful projects across the region.
In China, the CGF Green Transition Initiative supports members in aligning with national sustainability goals through a three-year strategy focused on accelerating action, exploring innovation, scaling product sustainability, and fostering regular dialogue with policymakers. This localized approach reflects the early stages of green transition among Chinese companies and is guided by insights from extensive member research.
In Japan, a newly launched regional taskforce is mobilising cross-industry and government collaboration to deliver bold decarbonisation pilots. These include a Japan Emissions Factor Bank, a Net Zero Supplier Academy, and a Japan Carbon Calculator—initiatives with strong potential to scale globally and strengthen emissions transparency across the value chain.
Together, these regional efforts reflect CGF’s commitment to driving measurable climate action at both global and local levels.
