Griffith Food’s commitment to workforce nutrition
Overview of Progress
Impact on the Workforce
Given that the organisation operates in the food industry, its goal is to provide foundational nutrition information to support associates as they participate in internal activities and external discussions related to nutrition. This aligns with the organisation’s aspiration to develop a more nutritious and sustainable product portfolio.
Furthermore, associates have shared directly that they find the information beneficial in their personal lives, gaining a better understanding of fundamental concepts that they can apply to optimise nutrition and health for themselves and their families.

Challenges Faced
Balancing complexity across diverse groups of associates
Some employees find the content very difficult, while others find it to be more of a review. The company has aimed to address this by making only some modules mandatory for our less technical or non-commercial team members.
Language barriers
Despite translations this is an ongoing challenge. There remain opportunities to add more translations or even translate content directly on the slides used to convey information.
Support from the Workforce Nutrition Alliance (WNA)
The organisation has utilised some of the WNA recommendations in its efforts. Specifically, a signage programme was implemented in one of its largest employee canteens to identify selections as red, yellow, or green choices based on their nutritional value. It was ultimately determined that encouraging optimal choices was better received than discouraging or labelling certain foods as ‘to be avoided.’

Inspiration for Future Commitments
For organisations considering commitments to workforce nutrition, it is highly recommended to utilise the WNA resources and tailor them to the specific needs, environment, and preferences of their employees. Establishing a committee to oversee these efforts could be an effective way to ensure the information is well-coordinated and suitable.
