• The Global Food Safety Initiative

    Safe food for people everywhere

Contaminated food impacts lives and livelihoods

An estimated 866 million people are struck by foodborne illnesses each year. For consumer goods leaders, unsafe food results directly in costly recalls, eroded brand trust, and significant long-term financial losses. To counter these risks, the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) mobilises CGF Members to foster continuous improvement in food safety.

We aim for a world where:

  • People can have well-founded confidence that the food they purchase daily is safe to consume
  • Every business in the food supply chain champions food integrity and safety
  • The food safety certification ecosystem works effectively and efficiently

Building a trusted, safer supply chain

By benchmarking and harmonising voluntary food safety certification programmes, GFSI implements an industry-led, science-backed framework that drives continuous improvement in food safety from farm to fork.
