CEO’s from some of the world’s leading Consumer Goods Companies have come together to deliver a video message ahead of multilateral negotiations towards a Global Plastics Treaty to be held in Paris at the end of May.  In the video, ten senior leaders from member companies of the CGF Plastic Waste Coalition set out their shared position that a legally binding UN treaty is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to end the plastic pollution crisis in a globally coordinated way.

Plastic Waste Coalition members of the CGF have endorsed the vision statement of the Business Coalition for a Global Plastic Treaty, convened by WWF and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, and are committed to working with governments to ensure a high ambition in the Treaty negotiations.

Following three years of collaboration, the Plastic Waste Coalition has developed leading industry initiatives on packaging design and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) that aim to accelerate progress towards a circular economy. The Plastic Waste Coalition has developed nine Golden Design Rules for plastic packaging which they hope will be considered in the Treaty negotiations. A unified Treaty provides an opportunity to harmonise packaging design guidelines for the whole Consumer Goods industry and to encourage the development of efficient, cost effective and transparent EPR schemes for packaging across the globe.
