The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Climate Transition Coalition, formerly the Towards Net Zero Coalition, featured prominently at this year’s Global Summit in Amsterdam. As the Coalition’s work accelerates, member companies are embracing a broader, more pragmatic approach to tackling climate change through both emissions reduction and resilience building.
A New Name that Reflects the Mission
The name change to Climate Transition Coalition reflects the evolving nature of the climate challenge. While the ambition to reach net zero remains central, the Coalition now expends its focus on supporting businesses and suppliers as they navigate and adapt to climate risks. The new name signals a dual commitment: reducing future risks while helping companies thrive through the climate transition.
CEO Roundtable Sparks Strategic Dialogue
Ahead of the Summit, the Coalition hosted its first CEO Roundtable that brought together leaders from across the industry to discuss how businesses can collaborate more effectively on climate. The discussion highlighted the need to scale practical progress through smart data and supplier collaboration, while also focusing on several high-impact areas to drive systemic change.
Summit Session: Turning Vision into Action
During the final programme block of the Global Summit, the Coalition hosted a dynamic session titled “Climate Transition – Accelerating Emissions Reduction.” Led by Shalini Unnikrishnan, Managing Director and Senior Partner at Boston Consulting Group, the session featured key voices from across the value chain:
- Frans Muller, President and CEO, Ahold Delhaize
- Archana Jagannathan, Chief Sustainability Officer, PepsiCo Europe
- Scott Price, Group Chief Executive, DFI Retail Group
The discussion explored how companies are moving from ambition to implementation, emphasising practical strategies for accelerating decarbonisation. Speakers underscored the power of collective action and peer-to-peer learning to overcome barriers and scale impact.
Launch of the Common Data Framework
A major milestone from the session was the release of the Coalition’s Common Data Framework. Developed in partnership with BCG, the framework is designed to bring greater consistency and transparency to climate data reporting on two critical topics: scope 3 category emissions, and deforestation and conversion-free (DCF) sourcing. It will help companies align on key metrics for emissions and deforestation across their supply chains, making data a tool for collaboration rather than confusion.
