Paris, 22 April 2025 – To mark Earth Day, The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Towards Net Zero Coalition of Action, with the support of Boston Consulting Group (BCG), is proud to launch ‘Climate Action in Practice: Actionable Insights for Retailers & Manufacturers — a new publication designed to help both retailers and manufacturers take practical steps to reduce their environmental impact and accelerate progress toward net zero.

Drawing on experience from CGF members, the guide provides a structured approach to tackling climate challenges across the consumer goods industry. It offers technical guidance, industry case studies, and actionable insights to support companies at all stages of their sustainability journey.

The publication is organised into six key sections, each addressing a high-impact area where collective action can drive meaningful change:

  • Reducing deforestation in supply chains
  • Enhancing sustainable agriculture and livestock management
  • Adopting circular and sustainable packaging
  • Increasing low-carbon energy and transportation
  • Merchandising more sustainable products
  • Reducing food loss and waste across the value chain

Each section explores relative impact and feasibility, outlines common challenges, and highlights proven solutions — with a strong focus on collaboration, supplier engagement, data, and education.

As governments tighten regulations and expectations from consumers, investors, and employees continue to rise, this guide provides a timely and practical guide for action across the industry.

Climate Action in Practice: Actionable insights for Retailers & Manufacturers’  is available for download as of today.
