Colgate-Palmolive started its sustainable sourcing journey in palm oil derivatives in 2015. Since then, Colgate-Palmolive has been working with suppliers to ensure RSPO mass balance certification by the end of 2023. In 2021, they engaged with their top 20 suppliers to raise awareness of the Coalition’s palm oil roadmap and Colgate’s policy expectations.

Colgate-Palmolive also began measuring supplier performance against NDPE expectations through a performance measurement survey called pre-EPI (Engagement for Policy Implementation). This survey focused on driving NDPE performance with 14 direct suppliers while improving traceability and material certification efforts. Supplier dashboards and a governance process were established to monitor progress and track actions for improvement. In 2023, the dashboards were refined and shared with Colgate-Palmolive’s sourcing teams.

Additionally, the Coalition, Colgate-Palmolive and Earthworm are investing in capability building webinars for suppliers on forest positive delivery, including NDPE policy, transparency, and traceability. We are also engaging with other industry derivative groups like Actions on Sustainable Derivatives to initiate long-term collaboration on sourcing sustainable and NDPE compliant materials.
