This study assesses the degree to which the in-store environments within major Australian supermarket chains (Coles, Woolworths, ALDI and independent stores) promote healthy eating, and how this varies according to the level of socioeconomic disadvantage of the area in which the stores were located. An in-store audit of 104 stores (26 from each chain) in Victoria in 2019 was conducted. This study follows a 2018 assessment of the policies and commitments of Australian supermarkets in relation to obesity prevention and nutrition.
