The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI) and the Global Sustainable Seafood Alliance (GSSI) have joined forces to launch a new Technical Working Group which aims to identify and develop solutions to mitigate risks and improve working conditions, and ethical business practices across global seafood supply chains at sea and ashore. This includes transparency and traceability (the ability to track seafood products from harvest to consumer) – and to integrate labour rights into at-sea certification standards. Both organisations are in alignment to drive practical action for the seafood sector.

The group, consisting of over 15 organisations including global certification bodies, manufacturers and NGOs came together for the first time on 7 May 2025, ahead of the Global Seafood Expo in Barcelona, to address growing demands from retailers for human rights due diligence (HRDD) throughout the value chain, proactively identify issues and work on tools to support this effort.

The group’s mandate also includes engaging with all relevant stakeholders to present and gather feedback on its work, ensuring a wide range of voices are heard and included in the development of practical, impactful solutions.

Didier Bergeret, Sustainability Director at The Consumer Goods Forum said,”By combining expertise from the seafood and consumer goods industries, we’re enhancing transparency and accountability in sourcing practices. Collaborative efforts, like these, to address challenges in the seafood sector are vital to driving responsible, sustainable change.”
