On Monday 19 May 2025, The Consumer Goods Forum’s Director of Sustainability, Didier Bergeret, representing the Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI), participated in a panel discussion at the World Seed Congress, the International Seed Federation (ISF)’s flagship event in Istanbul on the importance of ensuring supply chain sustainability and corporate due diligence throughout the consumer goods industry – from Seed to Fork. Over 1,500 delegates from over 70 countries attended the annual edition of the global seed industry’s flagship event.
Industry leaders including Aidan Connolly, President of AgriTech Capital, IFAMA and Mustafa Mert Dalağan, METRO Türkiye joined him on stage in a panel discussion on the role of the seed sector in resilient and nutrition food and feed value chains. Bergeret underscored the importance of stakeholders working together across the entire value chain — from seed to shelf — and called on the industry to harness innovation, such as AI and regenerative agriculture, to drive efficiencies in food safety and human rights due diligence.
Didier Bergeret, Director of Sustainability at the CGF said, “A sustainable supply chain starts with a seed. That’s why it’s so important we connect the beginning of the value chain with the rest and build real, long-term collaboration across sectors. At the CGF, we collaborate with partners like ISF and International Fresh Produce Association (IFPA) to engage the industry in shaping a more responsible, and efficient food system.”
Bergeret emphasised that sustainable practices must become the norm, not the exception. He outlined the value of SSCI, emphasising how its recognition of sustainability standards promotes transparency and credibility across industries. He noted that this is especially valuable for the seed sector— the very beginning of the supply chain particularly for the horticulture industry — by helping businesses identify and support genuinely ethical and sustainable practices.
