On 11th June, The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF)s Environmental Sustainability Director Ignacio Gavilan took part in ‘Insieme Day’ hosted by CGF member, Barilla in Singapore. The session, entitled ‘Building a Sustainable Food System’ aimed to bring partners and experts together to discuss the key challenges surrounding food sustainability in the region. Speaking alongside Ariel Muller, Forum for the Future and Gerald C. Kuehr, Unilever, speakers explored the complexities of the current food system and the role of the consumer goods sector in transforming the market.

The first Asian-edition of Barilla’s annual summit ‘Insieme Day’ was organised ahead of the CGF Global Summit in Singapore, bringing together a diverse set of thought leaders and influencers across the nutrition and transparency spectrums.

Insieme in Italian, means ‘together’, and is a critical element in how issues in today’s food system should be solved. As the global population increases, so do the struggles to increase food production – safely, sustainably and transparently.

“We believe we can fulfill our responsibility only through open collaborations with many other actors; we consider ourselves a company ‘open to stakeholders’ and we are keen to receive suggestions and set many collaborations to improve our path”. Claudio Colzani, CEO, Barilla.

“I really appreciated the opportunity to address relevant stakeholders in the context of Asia where the greatest opportunities for market transformation exist. Gatherings like this help us to create a wider shift to more sustainable food production, processing and retailing.” said Ignacio Gavilan, The Consumer Goods Forum.

The CGF is delighted to have partnered with Barilla in the organisation of this event and to have contributed to the discussions on building sustainable food systems.
