On Friday April 23rd, Ignacio Gavilan, Sustainability Director at The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), spoke at Food Integrity 2021 which brought together professionals from the food and beverage sector to debate the challenges facing the industry and share their lessons and solutions. Ignacio, who oversees the CGF’s Coalitions on Food Waste and Plastic Waste was invited to a panel called “Rethinking the Food Sector” to share his thoughts on the consumer goods industry’s role in solving the food and plastic waste problems.

Byron-Cox, Head of CDIO at UNCCD, Juliane Caillouette-Noble, Development Director at The Sustainable Restaurant Association, and Carla Hilhorst, EVP of R&D Foods and Refreshment, Unilever. Moderated by Lord Deben, Chairman of Sancroft, the panel resulted in an insightful discussion around the problems facing the current food system, plastic packaging and shelf life. Ignacio presented the CGF’s work on food systems via its CEO-led Coalitions of Action, and highlighted the challenging intersection between plastic packaging, food waste and food safety.
