The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) End-to-End Value Chain (E2E) initiative and Product Data Coalition of Action held their bi-annual Steering Committee meetings in Sitges, Barcelona on 29th and 30th September.

The E2E initiative works towards ensuring that industry trading partners have access to real-time, accurate and independently assured supply chain and product data down to item level. The Product Data Coalition was formed in 2020 specifically to address weaknesses faced in today’s data exchange processes by ensuring that all products have a unique identification, all IDs can be verified in real time, and all brand owners, retailers and platforms follow the same Global Data Model by 2022. In addition the Coalition aims to accelerate the DataPorts concept to facilitate use of new technologies and federated data sharing.

The meetings marked an occasion for Steering Committee members to take stock of their main projects and work delivered over the past six months since the last bi-annual meeting in March. Key topics covered over the two days included an update on the CGF E2E LeapFrog Initiatives, Ubiquity of a unique Identifier, a central product data repository controlled by GS1 (VbG), the development of a Global Data Model and progress on Data Quality. Looking forward, the Steering Committee identified the accelerators and publishing more success stories as priorities to drive progress on their mission and agenda.

Following the Steering Committee meetings, the CGF’s E2E hosted the first edition of their innovative event – WinterComes. The new event was designed as a marketplace for innovative projects that drive immediate results for the consumer packaged goods industry and for consumers themselves. It brought together C-level executives from CGF member retailer and manufacturer companies, to network, share insights, and learn about the cutting-edge technologies from service providers showcasing their pilots ready for deployment within the industry.

Companies showcasing their pilot projects at the event were ENGIE Impact, Maersk, and consultingcheck. They covered topics under the categories of: Efficiency & Sustainability, Content Integration, Logistics in Smarter Cities, Technology, and On-Time and In-Full (OTIF), which were identified by E2E members as the main priorities for service providers to focus on within the marketplace. The event successfully kicked off the WinterComes and SummerComes series to be held bi-annually in Europe and Asia going forward, with next event, Best of Winter, expected to take place in New York 18th-22nd January 2022.
