Facing a Global Challenge

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 1 in 3 people worldwide are malnourished at an estimated global cost of $3.5 trillion a year. In 2022, 2.5 billion adults were overweight, including 890 million who were living with obesity.

About a third of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions is linked to food. Behaviour change of consumers through dietary shifts offers the industry a crucial opportunity to tackle climate change.

In a world facing growing health challenges, The Consumer Goods Forum’s Healthier Lives Coalition (HL) stands as a guiding light uniting retailers, manufacturers, and external stakeholders to promote healthier living around the world.

The Coalition is led by manufacturers and retailers in partnership with public health authorities, local communities, academia and other stakeholders. Its commitment is to help people make healthier decisions every day in every community around the world. It is about making it easier for people to take care of themselves and their families.

Coalition action is backed by a charter adopted by all its members and outlines the following common objectives:

  • Ensure Better Options: Improve the accessibility and affordability of healthier & more sustainable products for consumers.
  • Inspire Healthier Behaviours: Promote healthier choices in stores and communities, shape dietary shifts for food systems transformation and influence behaviours throughout the life course.
  • Leverage Digital & Data: Foster innovation and new business models through digital solutions and data sharing.
  • Enable Healthier Workforces: Implement employee health and wellbeing programmes.
