On behalf of the global community of the Consumer Goods Forum our hearts go out to our members, colleagues and the entire population of Japan as they look to rebuild the nation, following recent events.
As a group, we have spent the past two weeks assessing the situation, considering how best to progress with our forthcoming 2011 Summit in Tokyo. The Tokyo Taskforce along with representatives of the Forum and Summit Committee, have endeavoured to see how the situation might evolve in order to find the best solution for all parties.
Given the current concerns about travelling to Tokyo, together with other uncertainties, a collective decision was made with the support of the Tokyo Taskforce to postpone the 2011 Tokyo Summit.
It has however been agreed that we hold a 2011 Summit in an alternative location. After researching various cities around the world for a venue that could not only meet the criteria for our Summit but accommodate us at such short notice, Barcelona has been selected. We are now working tirelessly to create an engaging event for all our members and you will be updated on further details in due course.
In the meantime, we know that our members want to do all they can to support Japan in this difficult time. We will be sure to keep the nation at the centre of our thoughts throughout the 2011 Summit, through a number of charity and fundraising initiatives.
We have no doubt that Japan will emerge stronger than ever from this difficult period and look forward to holding a successful Summit in Tokyo within two years. Until then, we look forward to seeing you in June to share knowledge and expertise in our new 2011 Summit location. Many thanks for your support and understanding.
All currently registered delegates for Tokyo will be contacted to reconfirm their bookings. A new booking service for Barcelona will be operational as of April 1st 2011.
