End-to-End Value Chain & Standards head Ruediger Hagedorn recently attended the VMT Food Future Event 2017. Held at the Congrescentrum 1931, Den Bosch in The Netherlands, the event provided delegates with updates on the latest developments in the field of product integrity, product development, food safety and entrepreneurship in food. Ruediger’s presentation focused on the digitalisation of the food Industry.

More specifically, Ruediger looked at how companies are now experimenting with technology to further develop solutions for food supply chains and how organisations like the CGF are helping members – retailers, manufacturers and service providers – to share best practices and knowledge on the pre-competitive issues. Ruediger also looked at the challenges being faced by the industry and how the industry can overcome them, noting that many technological advancements – Blockchain, for example – were already viable and ready for implementation across the industry. And, as part of the panel discussion, Rudy was joined by Vincent Doumeizel, Vice President Food, Beverage & Sustainability at Lloyd’s Register; Mitch Chait, Founder & CEO of Greenfence and Leontien Hasselman-Plugge, CEO of SIM Supply Chain.

Also, presenting at the event was Board member of the Global Food Safety Initiative, Anita Scholte op Reimer. Anita is head of quality at retailer Albert Heijn. Anita introduced the GFSI Benchmarking Requirements Version 7, which was published earlier this year. She highlighted when we can expect to see change in the industry and how important it is to engage with governments and other external stakeholders. She also emphasised the long-term vision of the CGF’s Global Food Safety Initiative.
