Deforestation and conversion is not a side issue. It is a structural threat to business stability, climate targets and food systems. COP30, held in the heart of the Amazon, made that impossible to ignore.

Our Forest Positive Coalition (FPC) members were on the ground – speaking at panels, contributing to discussions and showing what business-led action looks like.

Forest loss is not just an environmental issue and delaying action increases risk – for businesses and ecosystems. FMCG companies rely on commodities like beef, soy, palm oil and paper and are under growing pressure from investors, consumers and regulators. Forest-positive sourcing is no longer optional, it’s now an expectation which is being reflected in emerging regulations.

Members on the ground in Belém

Coalition members including APP Group, Carrefour, and McDonald’s Corporation took part not just to talk, but to showcase practical delivery. Our strategic partner Proforest also contributed to key conversations. These engagements reinforced the private sector’s potential to support scalable solutions.

Supporting action through investment and measurement

The CGF’s inclusion in the official COP30 Action Agenda (Activation Group #5) recognises that business frameworks like the Forest Positive Coalition are already enabling measurable outcomes in line with the climate agenda.

At coalition level, this includes reporting against 200+ KPIs, with 75% of members publicly disclosing progress across key commodities. Our DCF methodology is aligned with both AFi and CDP standards, and members are supporting more than 29 landscape initiatives in sourcing regions such as the Cerrado and Amazon.

Compliance matters, but it’s not enough

COP30 underscored what many of our members already know: supply chains are embedded in real landscapes, shaped by environmental, social and governance dynamics.

To shift outcomes, companies must look beyond risk monitoring and take active responsibility for the systems they depend on. That includes partnering through landscape-level engagement and investing in long-term resilience.

This is the direction our members are already moving in – from oversight to participation, from monitoring to enabling systemic change.

Towards a forest-positive future for all

COP30 won’t solve deforestation. But it profiled the stakes for supply chains, and how business can play a meaningful role.

We encourage business leaders to engage with this agenda now. Explore our portfolio of 29 landscape investments. Work with us to better understand what it means to create DCF supply chains. With the Forest Positive Coalition you can collaborate in a pre-competitive space to address shared challenges and reduce systemic risks.
