The CGF would like to thank members of the Collaboration for Healthier Lives Coalition of Action Steering Committee, as well as members of the Employee Health and Wellbeing working group for their valuable contributions to the mental health guide, published by the Business Group on Health on 4 May 2020. The guide, entitled ‘Addressing Mental Health from a Global and Local Perspective: A Guide for Employers’, focuses on a critical issue that is especially relevant to global organisations because of its impact on employee health, wellbeing, productivity and performance and aims to help employers understand the role the workplace has in supporting employees in dealing with mental health issues, by providing practical examples of tools and strategies global employers are implementing.

The launch of the guide comes at a crucial time, as the world is experiencing unprecedented challenges from COVID-19 which are significantly affecting people’s mental health; and a few weeks ahead of the Mental Health Awareness Week (18-24 May 2020).

The guide begins by providing an overview of the global strategies multinationals already have in place to support employees to become aware of mental health, address the stigma around the issue, improve the workplace culture and provide access to mental health professionals, amongst others. As local context greatly influences the appropriate mental health strategies, the guide then provides an in-depth analysis by country to provide readers with an understanding of the regional impacts on dealing with mental health.

The toolkit highlights practical actions that a number of CGF members have taken to address mental issues within their operations.
