On 12th October 2021, The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Collaboration for Healthier Lives Coalition (CHL) held their second annual Steering Committee meeting of the year in Paris and online. The meeting marked an opportunity for the Coalition’s governance team to take stock of their work delivered since the last bi-annual meeting held in March, to map out their priorities for the year to come, and to brainstorm ways to ensure the impact of the Coalition’s work going forward.

The meeting kicked off with a Coalition framing session in which the group unpacked the outcomes and shared feedback on the CGF’s CEO Coalition Impact Session that took place on 7th October. The CHL Coalition Co-Chairs joined the CEO session, to delve into the benefit of sharing learnings across the eight CGF Coalitions, and understanding common successes and challenges, among other key topics.

The Steering Committee reviewed 2022 priorities and agreed to establish a more streamlined set of goals and priorities, shifting towards more modular working methods to ensure an inclusive and impactful agenda. In addition, the foundational work of the Coalition to share knowledge and best practices was reviewed. The Global Learning Mechanism is the Committee’s key virtual resources hub, used by multi-stakeholders.

The Coalition’s key success factors, KPIs and impact were discussed, and the Steering Committee agreed on the need to establish a mechanism to monitor its KPIs though a safe data sharing mechanism. This is key to better measure and understand the impact of their work towards driving healthier lives globally. They acknowledged that the Coalition’s KPI framework will be helpful to investigate all options and report back to the CGF Board on progress made. CHL local initiative Co-Chairs from Russia, France, Colombia, Turkey, Japan, and the USA leveraged this session to share their latest updates and key success factors.

Updates on the Employee Health and Wellbeing workstream were shared, with the wellbeing framework on Access, Culture and Impact highlighting the shift on culture needed as one of the key measures of impact. The Coalition’s Wellbeing Wednesday series continues to run with the support of CEOs on the CGF Board sharing their personal wellbeing stories, and the importance of mental health was highlighted. Furthermore, the latest news about the Workforce Nutrition Alliance was presented by GAIN – including 40 companies using the tools and resources built and offered by the Alliance. A call to action was shared to further commit to workforce nutrition in the build up to the Nutrition for Growth (N4G) Summit in December 2021.

Finally, the Healthier and More Sustainable Diets working group shared updates on their progress. With the support of BAIN & Company, the team will move beyond information sharing towards action to drive a direct impact on the planet and on the lives of people in communities across the globe.

Following the Steering Committee meeting, the CHL Co-Chairs gave keynote presentations at the CGF’s sixth annual Sustainable Retail Summit which took place in Paris and virtually on 13th-14th October.
