The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF) and Food Industry Asia (FIA) were pleased to hold their roundtable on positive change in health and wellness in Singapore on 12 June 2018. Dick Boer, CEO Ahold Delhaize kindly opened the session on behalf of the CGF Board of Directors.
The roundtable discussions focused on the challenges and opportunities for the industry and the importance of collaboration in helping empower consumers to adopt healthier lives.
Ehab AbouOad, President of FIA & Regional President Asia-Australia, Middle East and Africa of Mars Wrigley Confectionery emphasised that collaboration is required to tackle complex issues and drive positive change.
Global Co-Chairs of CGF Health & Wellness Pillar, Isabelle Grosmaitre, Alimentation Initiative Catalyst, Danone and Alex Hurd, Senior Director, Health & Wellness, Walmart provided an overview on the Health & Wellness agenda at the CGF and highlighted the shift in millenials attitudes towards healthy, locally-sourced and transparent products.
Matt Kovac, Executive Director at FIA, outlined the double burden trend in Asia and how FIA is driving the Health & Wellness agenda through partnerships. ‘With the growing health challenges, there is a need for collaborative approach to drive the development of food and nutrition policies supported by sound science’ said Matt.
Veronika Pountcheva, Global Director Corporate Responsibility and Senior Vice President, METRO AG. talked about the importance of implementing a global-local agenda on health and wellness.
Discussions on the state of play on reformulation in Singapore also took place. ‘There is demand from consumer both to add and subtract from products to make them healthier’ said Joanne Denney-Finch, while talking about the ‘Healthier Product Reformulation in Singapore’ report developed by IGD Asia.
The CGF Health & Wellness and Food Industry Asia teams were delighted to host this half-day session on driving healthier diets and lifestyles in Asia and to have had the opportunity to hear from key players in the arena about the challenges and opportunities for our industry and the importance of collaboration in helping empower consumers to adopt healthier lives.
