ofi’s Commitment to Workforce Nutrition

ofi, a global ingredient supplier in food and beverages, is driving significant progress toward its 2030 goal to provide nutrition support to all its primary workforce, in partnership with The Consumer Goods Forum’s (CGF) Workforce Nutrition Alliance (WNA).

ofi provides food and beverage manufacturers with naturally good food and beverage ingredients and products that delight consumers around the globe. It operates in over 50 countries, with more than 120 manufacturing sites and 19 innovation centres, plus a sourcing network of 2.4 million farmers.

Despite a shift in its primary workforce from 24,500 to 18,000 employees since it made its commitment, ofi has more than doubled the number of people with access to its nutrition programmes—from 6,000 in 2022 to 12,500 in 2025.

The expansion means 70% of ofi’s primary workforce is now benefiting from tailored nutrition support, such as access to subsidised free meals and nutrition-focused health checks. Its progress is a direct result of strong local implementation combined with global HR leadership, ensuring programmes meet the needs and cultural contexts of employees across different regions.

These efforts align with the growing global momentum around workforce nutrition, reinforced most recently at the Paris N4G Summit private sector event in March 2025, where stakeholders—including the CGF—highlighted the critical role of the private sector in promoting healthier, more sustainable diets and addressing malnutrition. The Challenge

Nutrition initiatives across organisations often struggle to gain traction due to a lack of clear ownership and integration into core business strategies. Internally, responsibilities are fragmented—breastfeeding support might fall under HR, while canteen vendor selection typically lies with procurement, where nutritional value isn’t always front of mind.

Adding to this complexity, worksites differ greatly in size, geography, and available infrastructure, making uniform implementation impractical. To overcome this, a decentralised yet structured approach is essential—one that empowers local teams to adapt programmes to the specific needs of each location.

The Approach

ofi was guided by the Workforce WNA self-assessment scorecard, which allowed multiple ofi locations to evaluate their current nutrition offering, define local priorities, and create bespoke programmes. Five ofi teams also completed the Workforce Nutrition Masterclass, gaining further skills and knowledge to design high-quality initiatives. This helped create a network of internal ambassadors dedicated to promoting better nutrition across the company.

The endorsement and onboarding of workforce nutrition programmes by the ofi HR teams was essential to ensuring that nutrition support was seamlessly integrated into the relevant locations.

Key components of the programme included:

  1. Executive leadership engagement and a cross-company communication campaign led by the Chief Human Resources Officer, Usha Kakaria-Cayaux, helping embed nutrition as an HR priority.
  2. Localised nutrition programmes at plantation and factory levels, including health checks, access to fruits, breastfeeding support, and canteen upgrades.
  3. Training and awareness campaigns on nutrition, hygiene, and mental health.
    1. Strategic partnerships, including with Alive & Thrive and local health authorities in Vietnam.

Examples of ofi's initiatives tailored to local needs

    Egypt

The Happy Workforce Program  promotes employee wellbeing through breastfeeding support, nutrition education, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH), and mental health. A pilot in Beni Suef included nutrition-focused sessions for women onion peelers.

    Côte d’Ivoire

On World Food Day, ofi’s cashew team led nutrition education activities and provided comprehensive health checks—including BMI, blood pressure, and glucose assessments—to promote healthier food choices among employees.

    Tangerang, Indonesia

A health campaign at ofi’s factory in Tangerang included regular doctor-led talks on lifestyle and nutrition. Additionally, since 2023, a new canteen, offering, among others, complementary fruits, has been installed, as well as a fully equipped breastfeeding room to support working mothers.

    Seram, Indonesia

A holistic nutrition programme at ofi’s cocoa farm on Seram island includes monthly health camps, vaccinations, 24-hour clinic access, daycare with protein supplements, and a cooperative store offering nutritious food on credit for employees and their families.

    The Results

ofi has more than doubled the number of people with access to its nutrition programmes—from 6,000 in 2022 to 12,500 in 2025.

Usha Kakaria-Cayaux, Chief Human Resources Officer at ofi,“I am proud of all our teams worldwide who have driven forward our ofi Workforce Nutrition Program since its launch in 2020 and enabled us to reach this latest milestone. At ofi, we are dedicated to creating an environment where our people can make healthy choices that contribute to their overall well-being, both at work and at home. While we still have more work to do, getting to 70% nutrition support demonstrates how we are living our purpose to be the change for good food and a healthy future.”
