Official Programme 2024
Scaling Reuse: Overcoming Joint Barriers
During the last Plastic Waste Coalition CEO call in June, there was overall consensus that pre-competitive collaboration between retailers and manufacturers is key to unlock reuse at scale. This sparked the development of the Reuse City Programme that is now taking shape in Ottawa, Canada.
Join us for a CEO breakfast round table session where we will share our key learnings, from over 50 refill and reuse pilots, that is informing this Programme, whilst also hearing from you on your experiences. These collective insights will help to accelerate the pre-competitive collaboration that we need to deliver reuse at scale.

Eliminating Food Waste Matters
Good food should never go to waste. Yet all too often, food that is perfectly good to eat ends up being thrown away. This at a time when household budgets are under pressure and food security is a growing priority. The environmental harms of food waste are enormous.
Tesco CEO Ken Murphy will share his thinking, vision and approach on eliminating waste in our food system and how solutions to reduce food waste are within our grasp.
Room Gold Coast – 3rd Floor (lobby level)
The Scope 3 Reduction Journey
With only 2029 days left until 2030 (12 June 2024 – 1 Jan 2030), emissions must be nearly halved to meet global climate goals. I recently read that the UN’s Global Stocktake highlights a significant gap between current net zero commitments and the 1.5°C pathway. This gap is particularly relevant in Asia, where rapid economic growth and industrialization contribute significantly to global emissions. In the diverse regulatory landscape of Asia, navigating different environmental policies adds complexity.

Frans and Dirk’s focus, as outlined in the Co-Chair Manifesto in Kyoto last year, aims to navigate these changes within the broader context of the CGF’s Coalitions of Action and Acceleration Areas, emphasising the urgent need for collective action in driving systemic change and fostering collaboration to meet today’s challenges head-on.

In an era where healthcare costs skyrocket and chronic illnesses proliferate, the imperative of prioritising preventive health measures cannot be emphasised enough. The prevailing healthcare model predominantly operates reactively, intervening only after ailments have inflicted considerable damage to individuals’ well-being and financial stability. This approach not only burdens healthcare providers but also neglects to tackle the underlying causes of numerous diseases.
Join panelists as we explore the transformative potential of collaboration between manufacturers and retailers in fostering proactive self-care practices for health. Key questions to be explored include: How can we foster consensus on defining what constitutes health? What comprehensive strategies can be implemented to empower holistic behaviour change? And how can we collectively enhance everyday health outcomes for the 10 million employees within CGF member companies? Join us as we embark on a journey to revolutionise health through strategic partnerships and a shared commitment to preventive well-being.

With its unprecedented pace of adoption and impressive new capabilities unveiled almost weekly, Generative AI has the potential to fundamentally re-shape the business environment across industries. Many leaders in CP / retail have already gotten started, experimenting with AI on use cases across the value chain. Accelerating capabilities now expand opportunities to create value – from productivity to customer / consumer engagement to reinvention, unlocking new profit pools. However, while most business leaders recognize its importance (top priority for 85% of businesses), there is a gap on strategy and execution (only 30% have a Gen AI vision and the tech and data capabilities to succeed). We have identified two drivers for becoming an AI leader, which few have in place today: setting a strategy and vision and getting scaling right.
In this session, we will illuminate the rapid pace of change in Gen AI technology, clarify the “burning platform”, inspire leaders on setting a ‘future back’ Gen AI strategy and identifying the stepping stones, and provide practical insights on how to accelerate and optimize the AI journey.

Join us in the Net Zero Coalition’s mission to drive collaboration and accelerate decarbonisation efforts across the consumer goods industry. Together, through a robust climate action roadmap, we can lead the transition to a low-carbon economy and preserve nature. Achieving net zero requires a comprehensive approach that encompasses transitioning to renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, implementing carbon capture and storage technologies, and promoting sustainable practices across various sectors such as transportation, agriculture, and industry. It demands collaboration between governments, businesses, and individuals to enact policies, invest in innovation, and adopt sustainable behaviours. As the urgency of addressing climate change becomes increasingly apparent, the pursuit of net zero has emerged as a critical pathway towards building a more resilient and sustainable future for generations to come.
